The Importance Of Child ID Kits

Posted on 03 January 2009 by Concerning Kids

Some parents take the availability of child ID kits for granted, not knowing that the presence of such things can give them so many advantages. Most parents think that these kits are not really necessary. Some think that these are necessary but only when the children become of school age because this is only the time when they are apart from their children most days of the week. While this argument may sound logical, the harsh realities of life prove otherwise. The sad truth is that children, whether they are in school or at home, are always at risk of being kidnapped. In fact, the rate of child kidnapping incidents has grown higher in recent years that there is now a greater chance of your child going missing before he or she reaches adolescence.

That is why the National Child Identification Program has taken steps to ensure your child’s safety at all times. One of their means in doing so is the use of child ID kits. With this option, responsible parents can now take and store the fingerprints of their children right in their very own homes. These fingerprints are created or produced through the employment of a clear, inkless solution so that it leaves no mess, including black or dark ink and residue on the fingers, clothes, furniture, and others. Some parents are hesitant about the process because they don’t have any experience regarding fingerprinting. Actually, parents do not necessarily need to be fingerprint experts to have a child ID kit. When the clear, inkless solution makes contact with the fingerprint section of the ID card, a black fingerprint immediately shows up and the process is completed. It’s as simple as A-B-C.

But more than its simplicity, it’s the usefulness of a child ID kit that makes it a must among households with children. You shouldn’t wait for your child to enter school age before availing of one. Experts recommend having a child ID kit as soon as your child comes into the world. This way, just in case the worst or the unthinkable happens, you can have easy and ready access to vital information regarding identification through the child ID kit. Unlike photos of your child, fingerprints (as well as DNA samples) do not change over time, making them more reliable tools for identification purposes.

Child ID kits prove most helpful to missing child agencies and law enforcement agencies. Since they hold significant information aside from fingerprints, including personal contact info, address, phone number, parents’ names and office addresses, and others, they are used for a variety of reasons, specifically to speed up the results of missing child cases and crimes. Some of the instances in which a child ID kit may prove of great help include the following: when the child disappears at a school function; when the child becomes lost while he or she is travelling; when the child goes missing because of an untoward accident or injury; when the child goes missing because of a natural catastrophic event, such as a storm, hurricane, tsunami, tornado, etc.; if the child is kidnapped; if the child is killed.

DNA and fingerprints do help greatly for identifing children. But you want to find them before you can identify them. Usually when you are going to use fingerprints and DNA to identify a child the worst has already happened. My wife and I chose to use DigiKids for our childrens id because they provide a way to quickly get out missing children poster and flyers to help find the child immediately.

Either way parents need a child id
