As a parent, you probably realize how important it is for your kids to get quality exercise. You know that it will help them be healthier as well as form habits that can help them as adults. When you get into the habit of being active, it is more likely to stay with you throughout your life. During nice weather it’s easy for you to let them get their exercise. You can take them to the park or just let them run free in the backyard.
However, sometimes the weather just doesn’t want to cooperate with your plans. Sometimes its way too hot outside and sometimes it’s raining. You can usually eliminate the winter months as well in many climates. So this leaves you with a pretty big gap to fill if you want your kids to continually get their exercise. Luckily, there are several great indoor activities that you can do to help your kids have fun and exercise at the same time. Let’s take a look at some great things that you and your kids can do together.
One classic idea is to play indoor basketball. You can accomplish this in a number of ways, but the best way is to play with one of those little hoops that stick on the door or glass. You just hook it up to the wall and start having fun. You play with a soft little ball that can’t damage anything in the house and then let the games begin. You can actually play one-on-one with your child or have a game of HORSE. A shooting contest is also fun if you have multiple children to play with. This can make for hours of entertainment that doesn’t involve a television.
Another fantastic game is an indoor snowball fight. This is very simple as it only involves a few of your socks. Just take the socks (clean ones preferably) and wad them up into balls. You now have a ready-made armory of snowballs to use. Go throughout the house and put away all the breakables. Grandma’s vase should probably go in a safe place for now. Then let the war begin. You can divide up into teams or just play “every man for himself.” This is a very fun game that can be a blast even for the adults.
Yet another great idea is to blow up some balloons and then tell your children not to let them hit the floor. You can play with them or just let them go at it. Just throw them up in the air and tell them not to let the balloons hit the floor. One balloon probably won’t be fun enough, so you’ll need to add some more to the mix. The more balloons you add, the more intense it gets.
Overall, there are hundreds of ideas and ways for you to keep your kids playing, even when the weather doesn’t want to cooperate. Just get creative and try new things. You never know when you’ll find the game that your kids will remember forever.
