Warnings about adult obesity are splashed all over the TV and radio. Unfortunately, these warnings do nothing to draw any attention to an equally serious problem: child obesity. Child obesity leads to serious complications in children’s health and their health during adult life. It is hard to find an effective and proven child weight loss program.
Even so, celebrities and children’s television networks are sponsoring outlets for children to challenge themselves to become healthy and active. Many of these outlets are nationwide competitions, so consider these as a possible solution. Otherwise, the trick to child weight loss is moderation and activity.
It also never hurts to take a look at your own habits to see if you’re setting a good example for your children. You may want to consider a health plan that will help you become healthier and/or lose weight as well. As children appreciate good role modeling, they also appreciate mentoring from someone who’s doing the same things they are.
When working on a program for child weight loss, the important thing is to include healthy foods for children. These foods are usually rich in vitamins and minerals. These vitamins and minerals are of utmost importance because it takes energy to grow and become strong. Clear the refrigerator of soda and the cupboards of candy. Eat out at restaurants that offer wholesome food for the whole family. For many children, eating vegetables is not a great experience. So you may have to find creative ways to present them such as making pictures out of them as they lay on a plate, or making characters out of combinations of vegetables. Otherwise, also consider adding supplements such as specialized child vitamins.
Besides eating healthy food, exercise is necessary to lose weight. Schools often offer recreational activities for kids, and many towns have youth centers. However, there are fun weight loss activities that entire families can participate in such as town festivals including relay races. Some families take time swimming in a pool or at the lake. Others take their kids on biking and hiking adventures. It’s also a good idea to encourage children to play on playgrounds wherever possible because they allow for a wide variety of physical activities including climbing, jumping, running, and swinging. If nothing else, many children’s television networks have child exercise programs that make repetitive motions such as jumping jacks loads of fun.
Achieving results and countering child obesity starts from a young age. Eating moderately and encouraging your child to play are both excellent ways of building muscle and burning calories and are excellent ways to counter obesity before it really sets in. Alternate treatment methods such as diet medication should be discussed with the child’s doctor because most of these are for more serious cases.
