As children grow older and become more independent, the freedom they have over what they eat increases along with everything else. This can sometimes result in poor dieting choices which may lead to health problems in later teenage years and the early 20s. It is important for teens have healthy eating habits during this time of their lives—the time when they are learning how to operate in the world and developing habits that will continue throughout their lives and here are a few of the basics.
First, skipping breakfast in the morning is a bad idea. For busy high school or college schedules, it can seem convenient to skip a first meal but having a good breakfast can jump start the body’s metabolism and has positive effects on mood and cognitive ability. Studies have also shown that teens that eat breakfast, on average, don’t weigh as much as teens who skip it.
